TAMU offers an incredible array of activities, sports clubs, and student organizations for students to plug into. No matter what your interest, there’s sure to be something for you. From the TAMU sailing club that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays on nearby Lake Bryan to the Inkling Society, a student club with the goal of connecting literary enthusiasts via social activities.
However, even with all these great choices, you may find yourself wanting to get out of the college crowd every once in awhile. - Spirit of Texas Festival | March 23-25. The Spirit of Texas festival is a FREE three-day weekend even that boasts itself as being “All things Texas”. This means four stages where you’ll find Texas musicians playing an assortment of country, funk, gospel, and zydeco music. There’s also going to be unique events like an attempt to make it into the Guinness book for the World’s Longest Ice Cream Sundae, a $10,000 BBQ cook-off, and an $11,000 Curbside Smack Down Food Truck Contest. Plus, there’s going to be over 100 vendors to browse through. In summary, SoTxFest is not to be missed.
- Roxy Roca @ Grand Stafford Theater | March 23. This Austin-based band has surged in popularity over the last couple years. They’re planning on releasing a second album in the coming months and taking off on their first overseas tour at the end of the year. So, now’s the time to see why so many are going crazy for this musical powerhouse of southern soul and funk. Plus, the Grand Stafford is arguably one of the best and most dynamic venues in town for shows with the March Roxy Roca show a great first experience here.
- Camelot & Big @ The Theater Company | Feb 23- March 4 & March 18 & 19. Another exciting venue that showcases a different type of show is The Theater Company of Bryan-College Station. This is an outstanding community theater performance group that regularly produces high-quality and exciting productions like their upcoming Camelot and musical re-make of the film Big.
