On Point Halloween Costumes of 2016

If you’re a freshman, then you might not have gotten the memo just yet.. but Halloween is huge in college. This holiday is the first big reason undergrads of all interests have to throw on and off-campus parties. Your crew will likely enjoy Halloween party hopping and swapping costume compliments with dozens of co-eds. Don’t be the only one wearing basic clothes.

Of course, it’s understandable if you also don’t want to spend a ton of money or time on this costume. That’s why we’re here with some easy and affordable Halloween costume ideas to get your creative thoughts flowing:

3 On Point Halloween Costumes for 2016

  • Eleven from Stranger Things. Okay, so clothing retailer Lyst is already predicting this to be the most popular costume of 2016. So maybe not the best route if you want to really stand out, but a good choice if one-up the look. Oh, and in case you missed it, Eleven from Netflix’s Stranger Things is a savage telekinetic character. She loves Eggos and rescuing her friends in the nick of time. In short: Babe. Best of all, you can create her signature 80’s aesthetic with a quick trip to Goodwill and the grocery store (for that Eggo-box).
  • Snapchat Filter Face. If you have Snapchat, then you’ve probably already experimented with every single filter, collected trophies, and shared across platforms. So what not take that Snapchat game to the next level and become a Snapchat lens IRL? While tutorials abound, we particularly like this one, uploaded by fashion YouTubers Niki and Gabi. Plus, this affordable Halloween costume takes just make-up for full marks on affordability.
  • David Bowie. RIP. David Bowie was a rock star, fashion icon, and actor extraordinaire. He may have passed away this year, but they say imitation is the highest form of flattery… So why not don a Bowie outfit this Halloween in remembrance? It doesn’t matter if you’re male, female, or Bowie-like androgynous, there are plenty of themes to explore. Most of which you can recreate with a good haul from your favorite thrift store and some stage make-up. We recommend using this Bowie Character Guide and this List of Closet Favorites to jump-start your Halloween costume inspiration.

Sadly, David Bowie wasn’t the only icon we lost in 2016. This year wasn’t kidding around. Maurice White, Prince, and Gene Wilder all made their exits this year. But a slick Willy Wonka or Prince outfit offers a great way to say goodbyle and look great.

But for whichever costume you choose, just remember to stay safe and have fun. This year, we’ll have a full 3-day weekend of Halloween revelry to partake in. Trick-or-treat.
