Winter Must-do Workouts

While College Station might not get as cold as those cities north of the Mason-Dixon line, things can get downright chilly come November thru March. With now being the time when residents start breaking out the sweatpants, hoodies, and space heaters. And it’s when staying inside huddled up on the couch seems a lot more inviting than going outside for a run. The good news is that when you live at the Junction Cottages & Townhomes, you don’t have to freeze to get your daily exercise in. That’s because part of the amenities you enjoy here is an onsite, state-of-the-art fitness center. The following are a few great winter workouts you can do at this fitness center to keep the holiday calories away and get a headstart on new year fitness goals:

Winter Must-Do Indoor Workouts to Nix the Calories & Get Fit

  • Abdominal Crunches + Plank. Crunches are an incredibly effective and simple workout that strengthens and tones your abs. They are also easy to do no matter where you are! At the Junction Cottages & Townhomes fitness center, you’ll find yoga mats and balls to get you started. Aim to do three sets of 30 crunches that ends into a full plank position for sixty seconds. For best effects, do at least two reps of this, back-to-back, three days a week.
  • Mountain Climbers. With mountain climbers, you want to raise your knee as high and as fast as possible, sort of like a Tennessee Walking Horse. Try and do this for sixty seconds, rest for thirty seconds, and repeat three times. Because mountain climbers can be intensive, be sure to do full leg stretches before and after your workout.
  • Straight Out Supermans. Supermans look a bit funny but it’s incredible how much of a workout they offer. This is a key medium-intensity exercise that strengthens your core muscles and lower back. To do this workout, grab one of those yoga mats and lay down on the floor. You’ll then, as the workout name suggests, raise your arms and legs up and straight out as though you were Superman flying. Hold that position for thirty seconds, then shake them as though you were swimming for sixty seconds. Take a 20-second rest and repeat for three sets.

To Stay On Target, Find a Workout Partner

Whether you opt for these workouts or something else entirely, the best tip we have to stay on top and be successful with your winter workouts is find yourself a workout partner. Workout partners help keep each other accountable, making it a bit easier to get sweating even if all you want to do is snuggle on the couch during cold winter mornings.
