Naturally, you may feel a bit nervous or hesitant your first time heading down to a spin class at the Junction clubhouse. Nix that nervousness and consider the following first-time spin class tips to help you more confident as you head down to take your first ride towards a fitter, toner, and healthier you:

3 Tips For a Knock-Out First-Time Spin Class at The Junction

  1. Eat & drink before class. Spinning classes are huge calorie burners, with an average hour-long class burning an average of 700 calories. While you don’t want to weigh yourself down with too large a meal, eating a decent amount of carbs and protein about an hour before the class will help prevent premature fatigue. Likewise, you’re going to sweat. A ton. So be sure to both drink plenty of water in the hours before your class and come to class with a full-to-the-brim waterbottle
  2. Aim to be 15 minutes early. Proper bike set-up is a critical component of enjoying spinning and not overextending yourself. But if you’re new to spinning or even biking in general, you won’t know how to best fit the bike for your body. That’s why it’s a good idea to go a little bit early and talk with the instructor. Let them know you’re new and have them show you how best to set the bike you’ll be using up according to your height and arm and leg reach.
  3. Keep your form in mind. Once you’re on the bike, there are three primary tips about form to keep in mind throughout the course of your Junction spin class. First, the handlebar is there for balance and not support. Focus on keeping minimal pressure on your upper body and most on your legs and lower torso. Second, because of tip one, you want to ensure to never come forward over the handlebars and instead keep your hips over the seat. This will eliminate painful pressure on your upper back and shoulders. Third, keep your feet flat on the pedals and aim to push for smooth circles via your heels for maximum results.
